The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (S.A.N.E.) program, housed at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center (CSVRMC) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, provides forensic nurse examiners to evaluate and serve victims of sexual assault, sexual violence, and abuse. Forensic nurse examiners collect physical evidence during medical screening examinations and thorough evidentiary examinations, reporting on findings pertaining to the assault or abuse and assisting law enforcement agencies as needed.
HealthFront has provided the medical directorship of the program continuously since 1997. The medical director's responsibilities include program development, training assistance, administrative and medical protocol administration, and peer review with medical staff at CSVRMC. The medical director is available at all times to the S.A.N.E. nurses.
SANE is supported entirely by state and federal grants through the Victims of Crimes Act (VOCA), the Violence Against Women ACT (VAWA), and the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs.
